Tigers teach us to trust our instincts and act swiftly when needed. They show us the value of focus, patience and the element of surprise. This month’s poem is in honor of these beautiful creatures. Let me know what you think. Tigers are estimated to have walked the earth for nearly 2 million years, yet 96% of their numbers have disappeared in the last century. There is only an estimated 3,890 tigers in the wild; all of them could fit on one football field with room to spare. Tigers are integral to the health of the ecosystems in which they live. Help protect tigers by texting “tiger” to 707070 and making a $5 donation to World Wildlife Fund (Project C.A.T.).
The Mighty Tiger
By Kathleen Reeder
Elegant and powerful beast,
Supreme master of his domain,
Perfect embodiment of strength,
In tune with rhythm and motion.
Slinking through the jungle night air,
With lithe grace and vitality,
Camouflaged and slicing darkness,
Lurking in silence with patience.
Fighting spirit, cunning hunter,
Primal instinct as a stalker,
Bursts of intention and energy,
With no hesitation to pounce.
Keeping his eyes on his target,
Knowing when to stop, when to spring,
Waiting for the perfect moment,
To ambush unsuspecting prey.
